Troubleshoot Programs

At SeeCureIT, our belief with all computers is that there is at least one recurring problem. The issue then remains whether you can live with it or not. There is nothing worse than a persistent error message that will not go away. We have the skills and the knowledge to get rid of them for you. Usually it comes down to a program conflict when two programs are trying to access the same information and one drops out causing an error message. The other thing that we can do is figure out why a specific program is not working properly. It may be a case of re-installing the program.

Errror Message Laptop

Before you call someone , make sure that its just not a windows glitch. As with any computer problem re-start Windows. This often refreshes the RAM and frees up any memory blockages that might have occurred. Sometimes, especially with laptops, people just "hibernate" their computers instead of shutting them down properly.

Hibernation is where instead of clicking start the start menu and clicking shut down, people either close the lid of their lap top or leave their computer on. Most Windows operating systems have hibernation built into them. What happens is, if you do not touch your computer the screen saver initializes after a certain time for example 10 minutes. Then if you still have not touched your computer it will log out. After a further period of absence, your computer will turn off the hard drives, save all information like open programs, unsaved work and desktop settings into a huge file called hiberfil.sys. This sits on your hard drive and can be up to 4 gigabytes, after saving this information you computer will hibernate. Then when you press the power button or the enter key your computer will come back to life exactly how you left it.

There is nothing wrong with this process, it is just over time there is so much data backed up that it slows the computer down; Add to this the possible outcome that some of your programs aren't compatible with hibernation.

The third problem with hibernation is that your USB devices are not built for hibernation. They are designed to be "safely removed" from a Windows environment before you unplug them from a USB port. USB ports are always open and "safely removing the hardware" tells the operating system that you want to remove the device. Windows safely ceases writing data to the device and stops the connection. Shutting down the computer also does this because Windows closes all connections as part of its shut down cycle. If there is a problem with "waking up" the computer after hibernation, all the data on the USB device could be lost due to the allocation table being deleted. The best method of using hibernation is to keep hibernating during the day and shut down the computer when you go to bed.

Once you have re-started the computer after finding the problem, start the program again and try to repeat the error by doing what you did to get the error in the first place. If you can reproduce the problem, write it down and then call SeeCureIT. This method could save you time and money.
